Survival 101: 8th Grade
Maya Angelou once said "When you kow better, you do better." Robert Frost speaks of two roads meeting and taking the road less traveled by and it making the difference. Reading great literature and writing what you mean allows us to do better. We learn from others experiences, thoughts, and faith. During this class we will do exactly that. What is the theme of your life? The theme of this class is survival. It's up to you to define what that means.
8th Grade LiteratureWe will integrate social justice with our theme of survival this year. We will first start with the summer reading book Freedom Walkers by Russell Freedman. One of the first things we will discuss is how what takes place in the book an important part of life in America and what does it mean today and if it is still relevant. I'm excited to take this "walk" with you. Throughout the year we will see what others do to survive both spiritually and literally. I can't wait to read with you!

8th Grade WritingWe will integrate some of the themes presented this year in our writing. In addition, we will do some technical writing as well as research based writings. I'm always excited to learn from what you teach! Lastly, know that we will have some writing based directly on what you read in class. Make sure to keep up with your writing. There is nothing worse than the dread of knowing you have a paper due and you haven't used the time in class and waited until the last minute to produce and A paper. Give yourself the time in class to write as well as time on your own. I love that we are a writing community!
